The Chesapeake Antiquarian Photographic Society held its charter meeting in 1971. Preliminary meetings the year before resulted in the choice of officers, William Klang, pictured on the left as president and Eskin M. "Red" Ohlson on the right as Secretary-Treasurer.

In January, 2007 a new name was selected for the organization, Maryland Photographic Society.

On the left is a stereo view made by Jack and Beverly Wilgus at the 1974 CAPS picnic.

The lower photo shows a closer view of the group.

In May 2000 CAPS paid a visit to the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania studio of Rob Gibson where they were amazed by a stunning demonstration of wet collodian photography. Several of the members sat for wet plate ambrotype portraits. On the left some of the members pose for a group photograph before the ambrotypes were made. On the right is one of the ambrotypes with a phrenology theme.

The Society meets from time to time in the homes of members. On the left a member shares photographic novelty items from his collection.

For the last 5 years the club has revived an earlier tradition of holding a yearly picnic at the home of a member. At the 2001 picnic, members Jack and Beverly Wilgus demonstrated their tent camera obscura for the group.
